Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based psychological treatment for a range of psychological difficulties. CBT teaches you coping skills for dealing with different problems. CBT concentrates on how your thoughts, beliefs and attitudes affect your feelings and actions. CBT treatment is a time-limited and collaborative treatment that typically involves efforts to change thinking and behavioural patterns that may be maintaining or creating problems for you in your life.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Acceptance and commitment therapy (pronounced as one word ‘ACT’) is a form of cognitive behavioural therapy that uses mindfulness strategies to help us accept the difficulties we face in life. Like CBT, it is a time-limited and evidence-based approach for a range of psychological difficulties. Unlike CBT, it does not concentrate on changing thinking patterns. Instead, ACT aims to change your relationship with your thoughts and feelings so you can loosen their grip and free yourself from the patterns that bind and prevent you from living a meaningful, and enjoyable life. The therapy incorporates acceptance strategies, mindfulness techniques, and a wide range of evidence-based behavioural approaches. FAQs

Why choose CBT?

CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) is a structured, evidence-based approach that focuses on practical strategies to improve your mental well-being. As a BABCP-accredited therapist, I’m fully trained in these methods, so you can trust that your therapy will be based on both my experience and scientifically proven techniques that help increase the chances of positive outcomes.

Why does BABCP accreditation matter for CBT therapists?

Choosing the right psychologist or CBT therapist can feel daunting, especially with so many options available. That’s where BABCP accreditation comes in.

The BABCP (British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies) is the leading organisation for CBT in the UK and Ireland. Accreditation is considered the gold standard for CBT therapists, ensuring they’ve met strict criteria around qualifications and clinical experience.

Anyone can use CBT techniques, but achieving BABCP accreditation means a therapist has demonstrated the highest standards of training and practical experience. It also requires an ongoing commitment to professional development, regular supervision, and adherence to ethical standards.

To gain my BABCP accreditation, I completed an 18-month postgraduate diploma in CBT at Royal Holloway, The University of London. During the course, my therapy sessions were recorded and assessed by an experienced CBT supervisor. Additionally, I underwent continuous assessment, including regular supervision and written submissions, to ensure I had the skills and knowledge to effectively treat a wide range of issues using CBT.
