EMDR

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a comprehensive psychotherapy that helps you process and recover from past experiences that are affecting your mental health and wellbeing. It involves using bilateral stimulation (this simply means using both sides of the body or brain – using a lightbar, I typically ask people to follow a light from side to side using their eyes) combined with talk therapy in a specific and structured format. EMDR helps you process the negative images, emotions, beliefs, and body sensations associated with traumatic memories that seem to be stuck. These can contribute to a range of mental health problems. EMDR is best known as a therapy for treating trauma or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It’s recognised by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and the World Health Organisation (WHO) as a treatment for PTSD, but it can be used to help with a range of mental health difficulties. For example, I have found it to be very helpful for anxiety and phobias. For more information visit EMDR Europe.

FAQs

Why choose EMDR?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that is effective for treating PTSD and other psychological issues. It’s recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) as a proven treatment for trauma.

EMDR helps the brain reprocess and integrate memories in a way that reduces their emotional charge. Many clients experience long-lasting improvements, including sustained relief from symptoms and a greater sense of emotional balance.

Why does EMDR Europe accreditation matter?

EMDR Europe accreditation is an advanced step that comes after completing standard EMDR training. It involves a thorough evaluation of a therapist's practice by an experienced EMDR consultant, ensuring they’re fully competent in using EMDR safely and effectively.

Accreditation provides you with confidence that your therapist has a high level of expertise and experience in treating a wide range of issues using EMDR. It also guarantees that the therapist adheres to strict ethical standards and is committed to ongoing professional development and supervision.
